The Ann Arbor Public School District handles local public education which enrolls 17,000 students and consists of twenty-one elementary schools, five middle schools, and five high schools (two traditional, Pioneer and Huron, as well as three alternative schools: Community High, Stone School, and Roberto Clemente). A third traditional high school, Skyline High School, is under construction and is slated to open in September 2008.
